Charlie, a naturalist from the area, took us up into the mountains to find a good location for filming with feral bees. This one is digging into a prickly pear flower. To make sure that the bees (and other critters) carry away as much pollen as possible, the stamen of the prickly pear contract upon touch so that the bee is almost buried underneath. By the time it has worked its way back out, it is covered with pollen head to toe - claw - whatever...
