"Plain" means clear and concise - it is literally defined as "simple" and "without pattern. We pursue indepedence, confidence and originality in music.
Originally founded in 2001 by Manu Harmilapi Plainaudio turned into a non-profit netlabel in 2005.
Splitting the label catalogue into three categories, Plainaudio became an outlet for Leftfield Drum'n'Bass, Electronic and Experimental music on creative commons license basis featuring an large roster of artists, from Reinforced legend Alpha Omega to Lithuania's breakmeister IJO, from N-Noize's Photek reminiscense to Wales' wizard UV, from Austrian Simon/Off's Coffeehouse-Dubstep to the warm-cold-warm musings of Repetition|Distract.
The expansion of Plainaudio's catalogue to include Techno and experimental music was not only based upon experiences with 4/4-beats, but on the idea of bridging the gap between Drum'n'Bass and other styles of Electronica we like. This has allowed us to break free from stereotypes and at the same time offered a broader range of music - just plain.
