The Online XSPF validator can be of great help with making your XSPF playlists valid. It's like feedvalidator.org or the W3C's HTML validator, but for XSPF playlist files. Give it a piece of XSPF (from a URL, by uploading or by pasting into a text area) and it will produce a report with errors highlighted. Its code is released as Free Software. I wrote it for free.
